Windsor Report on
the State of the Anglican Communion
On October 18, 2004 (the Feast of St. Luke) the Lambeth Commission, headed by the Most
Rev. Robin Eames, released its report on the state of the Anglican
Communion. The commission was formed last year in response to the
consecration of the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson of New Hampshire and the approval of
same sex blessings by the Diocese of New Westminster in Canada. Commission
members were drawn from all corners of the worldwide communion of churches and
represented a broad cross-section of viewpoints. It is a hopeful sign that
they were able to produce a unanimous report. It certainly does not
"solve" the issue of homosexuality in the church, but it does offer ways for us
to continue to live, work and worship together in the tension of disagreement
over a very divisive issue. For what it is worth, I personally endorse the
report and hope that it will lead to greater understanding, unity, and
cooperation within the worldwide Anglican Communion, the national Episcopal
Church, and here at home in Western New York.
