Wednesday GroupSilver Anniversary CelebrationWednesday, April 28, 2004
On Wednesday, April 28 St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Wednesday Group. The Wednesday Group is one of the finest programs offered by the parish, providing worship, fellowship and education for up to sixty seniors on the fourth Wednesday of each month. It was designed by former rector, the Rev. Richard Fenn for senior members of St. Luke’s, particularly those who find it difficult to get to church on Sunday mornings, and is also open to any senior. It debuted on Wednesday, April 25, 1979.
The program begins with coffee at 11:00 am, followed by the Holy Eucharist in the undercroft, then a lovely luncheon and a program, ending by about 1:30 pm. Every July since 1996 George and Jane Campbell have hosted the Wednesday Group at a picnic at the Sportsman’s Club. Each month birthdays are celebrated and special individual cakes are made by Liz McIntyre.
The Wednesday Group is truly a labor of love from the whole parish, and is coordinated by the remarkable Liz McIntyre (who also coordinates the Shoppers’ Luncheon!). Liz is ably assisted by a host of volunteers, including: Drivers: Marge Allesi, Dorothy Anderson, John Flood, Fenton Gustafson, Richard and Ruby Gustafson, Phyllis Harris, Eleanora Lund, Anne Nickerson, Lorraine Streed, Jack and Wilma Twinam, Don and Jan Wormuth, Jane Campbell, Bob and Ann Lamp, and Dolores LeBaron; Salads: Ann Lamp; Desserts: Jane Roos and Kay Stahlman; Program: Don and Jan Wormuth (formerly Jane and George Campbell, Vi Kling and Virginia Smith); Worship: Clergy and Altar Guild; Set-up and clean-up: Liz and Howard McIntyre, Kevin Stafford, Phil Wicklund and others; Calling Committee: Liz McIntyre, Onolee Stilwell, Marge Allesi (alternate)
