Sermon outline for September 8/9“Passionate Spirituality”
NCD process—Growing the church spiritually and numerically The eight quality characteristics—now down to one What is passionate spirituality?
Not about changing our style of worship or spirituality. Not about changing to a new program for youth or evangelism or stewardship. But instead about changing hearts Growing the whole church by focusing first on the individual Christian.
An answer to these questions:
Many paths to that goal—which is really spiritual renewal. Retreat on September 21 and 22 will be about setting that path for us here. About how we as a community of faith can support each other as we grow in faith. What strategies will we create for the coming year? Retreats, workshops, resources But that is really step 2
The heart of the matter—step 1—is a personal relationship with God
1) Decide to invite him in. 2) Learn about him. 3) Spend time with him.
A Prayer of Self‑Dedication
Almighty and eternal God, so draw our hearts to you, so guide our minds, so fill our imaginations, so control our wills, that we may be wholly yours, utterly dedicated to you; and then use us, we pray, as you will, and always to your glory and the welfare of your people; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
Personal Prayer of Self-Offering Lord Jesus, I come before you as someone who has fallen short time after time. I have not been consistent in my prayers and worship. Too many of my actions and decisions have been grounded in selfishness, and not in love of you or my neighbor. Today I ask for your forgiveness. And I invite you to be the Lord of my life, to reign in my heart and to drive out those selfish thoughts and motivations. I dedicate myself to your service. Help me walk with you every day, to be faithful in my prayers, consistent in worship, and generous and loving toward others. By your Holy Spirit, help me grow into the person you have created me to be.
