CHRISTIAN FORMATION

At St. Luke's we are committed to lifelong education.

We offer programs for all ages to grow in faith.

Announcing our 2007-2008

Church School Theme:

“Jesus’ Family Tree,

from Adam & Eve… to Me!”

 Unit One, beginning Sept. 9:

“Adam and Eve, everybody’s ancestors”

We’ll consider the story of the first humans as told in Genesis; along with archaeological evidence that shows another timeline.  Which is “true”?

They both are!  Come find out why.  Register today.

Or come to a special open house August 26 or September 2.

Other members of Jesus’ family we’ll meet this year in Church School:

Jacob & Leah … Ruth & Boaz ... Mary & Joseph …

James, his brother … and through baptism, you and me!

SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMS

Church School for Preschool-Grade 5 uses the Workshop Rotation Model.  Classes explore a Bible passage for a month at a time, with the kids moving weekly to workshops in music, art, drama, videos, games or food.  The program makes use of the “Multiple Intelligences” theory of education, based on research indicating that individuals learn in seven identifiable different ways.  For instance, some of us learn best by hearing a story or lesson, others by writing it down; others learn by making a craft, moving around, singing, or tasting.  Since St. Luke’s began using Workshop Rotations in 2003, we’ve noticed that the kids learn and remember the stories much better after experiencing them in several ways.  Teachers enjoy this model, too; and it’s easy to “jump in” to lead a short, four-week stint in an area you enjoy.   Check the colorful bulletin board in the Undercroft for pictures; and each Sunday look for the workshop schedule posted on the Church and Parish House doors.  Contact:  Mother Susan.
